 Fifth Grade Curriculum    Print

Fifth grade at Rummel Creek provides opportunities for challenges as well as individual instruction.  Students are responsible for keeping their own assignment notebook, developing time management skills, and planning and completing many projects.  All of these skills will ensure success in Middle School.  Fifth graders participate in Hands-On-Science and various other projects.  This year fifth graders will be using the FOSS kits in science where they will participate in many cross-curriculum experiments.

In mathematics, fifth graders are becoming adept problem solvers.  They study fractions, decimals, beginning algebra and geometry.  Students continue to review skills learned as well as new concepts.  The use of manipulatives, small group learning, and work stations reinforce the understanding of the math process.  Fifth graders are expected to know their multiplication and division facts.  Math is also integrated with science and technology curriculum when possible.

In science fifth graders participate in the study of weather, forces that change and save the earth, and energy.  Students are involved with hands-on experiments through our Hands-On Science program that is provided by parent volunteers and the FOSS kits provided by our PTA.  Project-based curriculum helps students see how we used science in everyday life.
